When I rebuilt the mechanism of my tailgate last week, both of the mounting tabs on the right side taillight disintegrated, as did one on the left side. I ordered up a replacement pair, and got a chance to replace them before dinner last night. I had an adorable helper. She’s actually pretty good with a screwdriver, for a 4-year old.
If you’re wondering what’s going on with her bottom lip, she jumped off the playground at preschool on Wednesday, hit something, and managed to bite clear through her bottom lip. A trip to the ER and a few stit ches later, and she’s back to her old bouncy self. She is one tough little kid.
Behold all the rust. The other side ain’t much better.
Finished product looks nice. The original housings had gotten quite dull and weathered. Still all of the original light bulbs in the truck, except for the turn signal bulb on the right rear, and the brake light bulb on the left rear. Through some sort of voodoo magic, even the ever troublesome GMT-800 DRL bulbs ar both original, and both still work.

Best part is you can dangle her over the engine and her tiny hands can reach into cramped spaces.
I for one give props to all teaching any kind of trade or skill to anyone else.

Thanks :)
She had a rough afternoon that day, and the next morning she was in some pain, but within 24 hours she was back to her normal crazy self.

Playground injuries mean you’re doing it right.

I actually learned about this last month, having preschool age kids use a screwdriver really helps their fine motor skills, so you’re really just helping her learn how to control her hands better

Absolutely! My older daughter started “ helping” me use screw drivers at 2. At 4 I got her a screwdriver of her own, and made her two pieces of wood, with several threaded holes, so she could practice taking them apart and putting them back together . Now at 6, she can change the batteries in her own toys, even when there is a screw holding the battery door shut.

You need to tell the Oppo world how the drinking of beer (root) led to the demise of the passenger side taillight assembly.

I told that part of the story in last week's post :)
